Likoni Pedestrian Floating Footbridge

Meria

Elder Lister
Owing to the recent difficulties experienced in implementing the social distancing rule at the Likoni Ferry, and in an attempt to ease transportation between Mombasa island and the mainland south of Likoni Sub-County, we are glad to inform you that the construction of a Pedestrian Floating Footbridge connecting the two places will commence soonest.
The project was handed over to a reputable international company on May 15th and will take a period of six months to be complete. The contractor has carried out topographic and bathymetric surveys and handed over the report to the project coordinator.

The 800 metres long bridge will start on the Mombasa island, at Liwatoni and terminate on the mainland south - Likoni at Ras Bofu - Sultani area (see alignment C on the map below). The bridge will have a 150 meters gate at the centre to allow for passage of vessels across the Likoni channel.

In addition, the scope of the project will include access roads from the existing road networks to the bridge landing on both sides of the channel including bus/matatu terminus.

We call upon those who will be asked to clear structures to do so within the shortest time possible to give the contractor sufficient time to complete the construction works within the stipulated time.

The Project is financed by the National Government through the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and will be operated by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

Inspection of the proposed Likoni Footbridge alignment was carried out by our Infrastructure CO Eng. Thomas Chula, Eng. Jared Makori (KeNHA), Capt. G. O. Namadoa (KPA), Mr. Luke Samba (KMA), Mr. Rajab Kombo (KFS) and Mr. Charles WU (CRBC)
