KRA: New Gen of Excise Stamps

Absolute truth. My friends own a bottling and everyday he's crying. He even had to stop all operations for about and was only supplying 20 Ltrs to offices just to stay afloat. Manufacturing for mid level traders is too hectic and bureacratic.

Shida haswa ni nini. What are his biggest hurdles?

With bottled water, I don't trust hizi za hawkers. I think many other people also do not trust them. Its unfair to small businesses because they cannot break even without sufficient sales.

That's my limited view of this issue.

This is what you need. Besides the machines.
KEBS 40k
NEMA 30k
KRA excise Bond 400k
Public Health Licence - 10k depending on kanjo
SBP/Fire licence - 20k depending on kanjo
Plastic handling licence -20k

Then for every ltr you sell pay tax of 5.48
Then VAT at 16%

Umesahau...
Advertising and signage licenses.
If you brand you delivery vehicle you still pay separately.
You workers will have to have medical certificates at cost.

Being a business person in Kenya is being a very big balled creature. It's like the authorities are hell bent on making sure no biz takes off.

could it be the system was designed so to ensure we remain net importers?
Coz all these barriers can be removed or reduced via legislation but no administration has attempted to. They all sing kenya is good for fdi but locals have red tapes or huge capital barriers.

The problem is that every organizations main goal is maximum revenue, not service delivery.

There were efforts by the CoG to try and harmanize taxation of some common services but I have no idea how far it got. That was the essence behind the county economic blocks they have been creating all over the place.
It is funny that you will get maize from Kitale and pay cess at every county border you cross to get to Nairobi. By the time the maize reaches the consumer, costs have more than doubled.
Very bad way of doing business.

But governments shouldn't be a revenue generating entities but service delivery, that's why we pay taxes. Service delivered should reflect taxes paid.
Sadly, it is not
Btw NEMA has a licence if you want to play loud music throughout the night. Without a licence, it is illegal. With a licence, it is legal
