In Kimbimbi, Mwea, a friend of mine has experienced a remarkable transformation in his farming journey, thanks to the Kirinyaga County Government’s initiative of digging dams for farmers. Early this year, he became a beneficiary of one such dam, which holds over 2 million liters of water and even taps into underground water.

This dam has been a game-changer for him, enabling him to irrigate his farm during the dry season without worrying about water shortages. He has expanded his farming operations, growing vegetables and other high-value crops like colored capsicum all year round.

But his creativity didn't ’t stop there. Recognizing the dam's potential, he decided to rear fish as well. Today, the dam is home to hundreds of fish, providing him with an additional source of income and contributing to food security in the area.

This initiative by the Kirinyaga County Government is not just about water; it’s about empowering farmers to diversify and thrive. For farmers like my friend, it’s a chance to turn challenges into opportunities .

I wish all other counties can copy that and do better like drilling boreholes.

Then its good, some of these conties do just one then get their pr teams to sing
Kirinyaga government has really done a good work. As a farmer you just need to register and you will be given the exact day they will do your dam provided you have the title deed to prove ownership.
