KING KANJA
One of the most in-demand Kenyan musicians in the business is KING KANJA, whose real name is Kanja Muchoki, who was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, after being born to Kenyan parents in London, he has been touring the globe since he was 15 years old, showcasing his distinctive sound.
He currently resides in Los Angeles, CA, but regularly travels to London and Kenya. KING KANJA is well-known for fusing African polyrhythmic music, hip-hop, R&B, and reggae with his native Kikuyu and Swahili languages.
Fans of this distinctive music have come from all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and the US. Kanja's career took off after he signed a Coca-Cola agreement in 2009 and won over 4 million votes globally on B.E.T 106 and Park's Wild Out Wednesday.
Arranged for a Coca-Cola ad to be filmed in Kenya, collaborated with Chucky Thompson, a member of Bad Boy Entertainment's "Hitmen" in-house production crew in the 1990s, and Bad Boy mogul Sean Combs on songs for artists including Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G. under the guidance of Tony Washington, vice president of advertising sales at Reach One Media, a branch of Radio One, who came up with the concept to perform the Cathy Hughes-inspired song CATHY. He was nominated at the 2017 AFRIMMA Awardsheld in Dallas, Texas, for the “Crossing Boundaries with Music” award alongside international acts Wale, Wizkid, Maleek Berry, French Montana and Jidenna.
His discography includes two EPs, Vibes (2017) and Muchoki (2019), as well as two albums, King Kanja Ft Boutrous (2023), Vibe Lord (2020) and Vibrations (2020).
