Kenya Power

I am not a Futurama fan .
I think it's time the monopoly of Kenya Power comes to an end .They have made running business so costly with their frequent blackouts .Imagine the small scale farmer with an incubator and then stima inapotea every time the clouds get dark .For the last few weeks blackout have been part of my life at home ,hata kama ni domestic use I can't reliably offer remote IT support when needed in a cost effective manner .
I known other countries have worse e.g Lagos ,Nigeria but we don't have to benchmark ourselves with the worst .

Kabogo alijaribu kuleta investor kutoka egypt cartels zinkamuonyesha hajui. Akon tried it pale senegal ikabiki ameinvest in solar energy....... cartel innpower sector aint no joke.
is competition viable where existing distribution infrastructure belongs to kenya power? Unless you are saying wakafungue new markets which are in the rural areas.

Ata Posta, Telkom with the fullness of time didn't know what hit them. Kenya power can open it's doors to other players who have intentions of making power more cheaper in addition to connecting more households.

With proper planning and design it's easy to setup infrastructure for a new player but our planning department is compromised. During kideros tenor jica financed a new masterplan for nairobi at a cost of 300m which i can gurantee addressed such issues but since it doesn't maintain status quo its gathering dust somewhere. In senegal the president himself approved akons plan but the cartels got him and he had to revise his plans.

At the rates kenya power is charging for electricity, competition is very viable.
The power lines belongs to them, the transformers are theirs too. So if a new competitor comes are they ;
1. going to lay out their own infrastructure? and if so

2. with the poor housing plan how will they accomplish that?

3. Let's not forget the sewer system we have was laid out early 20th century. If a new system needs to be set up it will involve bringing down buildings to give way for that. You know what follows after? Either massive compensation or legal law suit. Is it worth the investment?

4. So are we going to see multiple power lines on the streets? Kenya power on the left of the road and Okiya power on the right and then mwalimu-g underground. That's chaos my buddy.

In summary things have run to a grid lock and will be hard to untangle ourselves from that lock. People should think of alternative sources eg solar, biogas ... Kenya power is like having a wound that won't go away. You have to carry it throughout your life

A new competitor will come and use the same infrastructure for Kenya power and agree on the fees..Safaricom does the same with its fibre in Coast but most people are not aware.

So many variables.
There's no one-size-fits-all solution.
As a start, tell me about your power needs- lighting, refrigeration, milking, security, etc. Anything that you use elec for.
The need for most kenyan household are practically the same..... weka info.
