Apart from cartels fleecing the airline, could this also explain why the national airline makes losses every year??

Below are one-way ticket prices from JKIA to Heathrow for KQ, Emirates, and Ethiopian Airlines respectively.

I am no expert about aviation issues, so please educate me. How exactly does Kenya airways afford to charge less than half the price for a flight to London?? Its cheaper and has no layovers like the other more expensive airlines.

My theory is that the government is using taxpayer money to facilitate air travel for the elite. The poor masses do not travel abroad. Its the government subsidizing air travel for the elite using money paid by the masses who have never used a KQ plane.

There could be an economic reason behind running KQ at a loss because Kenya receives more in Diaspora remittances than all other East African countries combined. $378 million in July alone.

Educate me guys. What exactly is happening here? Is this the case of running one parastatal at a loss and recouping the money through alternative means (diaspora remittances, tourism, business etc)??

One of the rarest moments I’ve seen KQ charge cheaper. It has always been the opposite.
