I do not think the handshake was preplanned, it seems the Kenyattas planned to back Ruto in 2022 up until they realised Jubilee's reign of plunder and wastage would give Rao and whoever else would vie enough ammunition to weaken their support especially in counties where they made small but vital gains like Kisii, Nyamira and Northern frontier counties.

Rao's strongholds especially would have been super-energised while Central and Rift Valley would experience voter apathy of unprecedented levels.

What better way ro strengthen his hand than join hands with the man who would have been the frontrunner and bury his only strong challenger before the contest even begins?

The only problem with his plan is that his Deputy planned even for the most unlikely event
