In the other village we had a heated discussion about these vernacular stations, in a long thread that ran over 10 pages. My stand then, as now, is that they are doing more harm than good.
I strongly disagree sir. If you ban them, what are going to do next? Ban the speaking of our languages? Or their teaching in schools? Or singing traditional songs? Perhaps we legislate that everybody should marry from another tribe?
The dislike of 'tribal' stations is a very transparent anti-Gikuyu ploy. After the liberalization of the airwaves, Gikuyu entrepreneurs and Kanyaris have come to dominate the media space, outclassing even more established media houses like The Standard. Today, MORE THAN HALF OF ALL TV AND RADIO STATIONS IN THE Country broadcast in five 'Kikuyu' languages.
This has caused great discomfort in some quarters, and the same old method of demonizing Gikuyu success has followed. They are tribal. I wonder whether anybody followed Luo radio stations 2016-2018 coz I did, and what they would speak about the 'thieving guoks from across the land' is simply unpritable.
We are used Mwangi wa Equite is successful because he stole. Ditto Kirubi, Karume, Michuki, et al.to the narrative. Gikuyu stations are tribal. Uhuru is the worst president ever. Ad nauseum.
Kama people don't want Gikuyu domination basi wa try harder ama wajitoe Kenya pole pole. I am joining Parliament and one amendment I'll push for is that any county can easily secede from Jamhuri hii endless whining ipungue.
And am serious.
