KALONZO MUSYOKA IN 1983 — AND THE LONG JOURNEY TO 2027
This photo of Kalonzo Musyoka was taken in 1983, when he was already deeply connected to the KANU establishment and serving as a legal representative of Mulu Mutisya, the influential Kamba political kingpin and Moi insider.
At the time, Kalonzo was already moving in powerful political circles, enjoying access and opportunities that came with proximity to the establishment.
Two years later, in 1985, at just 32 years old, Kalonzo Musyoka was elected MP for Kitui North — marking the beginning of a remarkable political career.
He would later serve as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (1988–1992), hold several Cabinet portfolios, and eventually become Vice President and Minister for Home Affairs under President Mwai Kibaki from 2008 to 2013.
Meanwhile, in 1983, William Ruto was still a young student at Wareng Secondary School, coming from a modest background and facing the ordinary struggles of a young Kenyan trying to find his way.
The contrast is powerful.
One was already close to the corridors of power.
The other was starting from almost nothing.
Yet history has a way of changing people's fortunes.
Today, William Ruto sits in State House as President of the Republic of Kenya, while Kalonzo Musyoka is once again positioning himself for the biggest political contest of his career.
The lesson is simple:
Never look down on yourself because of where you are today. Your current circumstances do not determine your final destination.
From humble beginnings to the presidency, William Ruto's journey is a reminder that perseverance, ambition and determination can change the trajectory of a life.
And as we head toward 2027, the political battle is taking shape.
My prediction?
Ruto will defeat Kalonzo by more than 3 million votes and overcome yet another political project associated with the Kenyatta establishment.
From 1983 to 2027 — what a journey.
Never despise your beginning.
