I think he's playing smart.
When you buy a property on mortgage for say Kshs 30million but the market gets depressed so bad that the same property goes for Kshs 15milion, the best way out is to default and tell the bank to take back their asset. Why continue paying for an overvalued asset?

Truth is if that land is 0.5 to 1 acre, the buyer will still have a bonanza. It's not about that pretty boring development, pseudo modern structure that quite well depicts Jeff's phony, slippery character nowadays.

can they try recover the difference from your other assets? @Ice_Cube pitia hapa
The property and the deposit are usually the collateral. You never have to include title deeds of other properties. But if your bank account in that bank has any money they will not allow you to withdraw it after defaulting on the mortgage
