1. These protesters started as reject finance bill. There will be finance bill 2025, 2026 and 2027. He has to do a tough balancing act. Or else he should expect the reject finance bill protests annually.
2. People are woke! information is spreading fast. The reliance on watching 7pm and 9pm news to get informed is behind us.
3. Propaganda. They tried deployment of propaganda this week but it backfired. They hired a few bloggers to push the agenda but it's not working.
4. Delivery - there's nothing to show for. Unlike Uhuru's 2017 elections where he he used his rail, road and electricity development kujitetea, this one has nothing.
5. Tribeless. We've always known what our problem was, but come election time we retreat to our tribal cocoons. This month it's been proven that people can actually be non tribal.
6. Social media - They don't have the control over the narrative on social media. Prime example is this village and Kenyatalk were heavily pro Ruto. You don't see that anymore.
7. Dynaste - Raila and Uhuru will no longer be the usual boogy men in 2027. They have to find another agenda.
8. Margins - Ruto barely scrapped the previous elections. Winning by just 200k votes. He's not done anything to improve on this.
9. Murima - Watu ya murima voted almost to a man. Tables have turned. Look at the protests in towns like Karatina, Meru, Ebu etc. Also there's the fear of being labelled tugeges back to back. Watu ya murima will try to shed off this tag.
10. Civic education - people are talking and educating others on the importance of good governance.
What would I do if I was Ruto.
1. Don't resign.
2. Set up extremely stringent anti corruption measures including kunyonga watu. Ensure that between now and 2027 there are several high profile people who have been executed. And don't start me on the BS of independence of judiciary.
3. Don't contest for 2027 elections. After all you'll still lose.
This way Ruto will ensure that the next leaders will be accountable and corruption will be a thing of the past. In years to come, the same way we thank Kibaki for the economy, we'll thank Ruto for taming corruption.
Nihayo tu kwa sasa.
