after so many years.. it is very selfish of his wife not to let him go

It's more selfish of you not to understand how emotional attachment works.

The guy is fine. She takes care of him and has probably made him more comfortable for those few decades than most functioning human beings who are living in literal hell will ever be!

Also, you should go to Japan and tell all the tsunami survivors who are still searching for their loved ones remains more than a decade later that they're being selfish and should let their dead go. They're probably unaware that "letting go" is an option.

she can only guess what the guy is feeling... Japanese case is not relevant here.. hoping to find your loved ones is not the same as having him in a coma for 39yrs... and no... whatever thr situation your life can't be worse than of a guy who's been in a coma since the early 80s

This is why it is important to stipulate your every wish in a will regardless of your age. I for example have stated that I don't wish to be resuscitated if I was in any sort of vegetative condition among other things.

They are keeping him alive using machines more for their benefit (science research and other studies) than out of humanitarian grounds.
