I'd say, Kenya's political problem is not what the president purports but rather free and fair elections. politics will definitely influence economics but economically empowered people wont even bother with ethnic antagonism the way the president purports. It's the poor people who think they need one of their own at the top. understood?

Who's "they"?

And don't even try to pretend like the residents themselves aren't on some kind of bullsh!t. I saw them giving up govt housing units set aside for them and renting them out to other people then moving back to Kibera because "that's what they're used to". And that happened multiple times.

I'm not saying it's all of the residents in Kibera, but it's a number large enough that you can't just resolve that issue by walking in there and throwing money at it. You'd have to forcefully evict people and fence off vacated portions as time went by and evictions progressed. Those are things which even first world countries deal with. They couldn't get people to leave abandoned neighborhoods in Detroit! How are you supposed to walk into a whole slum like Kibera and just "fix" stuff if the people living there fight you?
