Inside KSH. 9.2 Billion Bunge Towers

Bunge Towers is a 28-story building sitting adjacent to parliament buildings. It was meant to have been completed within just three and half years, but has still been under construction nearly fourteen years later. It was opened for members of parliament by president William Ruto and top leadership of parliament on Thursday 25th April, 2024.

Design:
Bunge Tower's architectural design incorporates a replica of the shield featured in the Kenyan flag and engraved in Parliament Buildings. This symbolizes protection, strength, resilience and the collective identity of diverse Kenyan communities.

Features

Costing a whooping Ksh.9.26 billion to construct, the office block building consists of four basements, 27 floors, six escalators, six lifts, two vehicular and pedestrian tunnels and 350 parking slots. It comes with a set of luxurious amenities for Kenyan legislators including a gym, a beauty parlor and two restaurants. The tower consists of 331 dedicated offices for senators and legislators to facilitate their operations. The first floor consists of; a Parliament Library equipped with a collection of 50,000 documents, reports, Standing Orders, Hansard, books, Sets of Laws of Kenya, Bills, Auditor General Reports and policy papers.

It will also house committee rooms where members will conduct their businesses. It has 26 Committee rooms located on the first, second, third and fifth floors which are fitted with advanced audio-visual and conference management systems to enable remote presentations. In line with the government's efforts to embrace green energy, the tower has a rainwater harvesting system and solar water heating panels on the 27th floor. For persons with disabilities, the building has wheelchair ramps at several access points to facilitate ease of movement. Linking the offices with parliament buildings is an underground tunnel, ostensibly for the security and comfort of MPs- We can all remember the Mps used the tunnel to run to safety on the day parliament was invaded by Gen-Z protestors.
