On the contrary in Kenya's case, it will spur investment . I agree with Ruto. Why should someone but acres of land and keep them idle? If the value of the idle land appreciates he should pay tax or he puts it to commercial use

Ideally, we should tax idle land by imposing still land rates. This makes a lot of economic sense. But this would be a political hot potato especially from where I come from. Very few of my kin would be happy to pay taxes for that 30x40ft buroti maguta maguta hapo Mai mahiu.

What will seperate the wealth that should be taxed and the one that shouldn't be taxed? Or wealth will change its meaning? Umepeana example ya land not in use. Ata nyumba yako ni wealth remember.
This is another economist with a contrary view

I am wondering why Ndii is silent nowadays

Definitely the wealth tax will be subject to threshold and specific exemption. It is a tax for the super rich.

Wealth does not include properties owned by regular people. I would say you do not need to be worried if your net-worth is in the millions. As we speak, Europe is applying increased taxes to energy firms with abnormal profits. Nothing new. The reason some people would be making super incomes is because the systems in place allow them to do so. Therefore, there is nothing wrong when the government decides to apply some correction.

Good. The question is now they'll determine someone is wealthy enough to be taxed. Already we have so many fraud birrioneares who pay nothing as tax. When Uhuru was asked how much he owns, it was established he doesn't even own land😂
Forbes releases a report on 'the most wealthy...." When it comes to Kenya, that list is always fake...because people never got what they own genuinely.
