KeNHA says the fig tree stands on the site where Expressway will pass through. Following complains by social media users on why the tree will be brought down, the authority had to clear the air by saying the Fig tree will be transplanted and relocated to another location which is yet to be announced.

The Nairobi expressway is set to have a four-lane which is expected to reduce traffic on Mombasa was launched in October last year and it was estimated to cost Sh59 billion. The project should be completed in three years.

A private firm which has funded the project will collect fees from expressway user for 27years to generate the funds used during construction of the expressway.

After 27years, the private firm will hand over the collection process to the government
