After harvesting your bulb onions, the first step is drying them properly. This process, known as curing, is critical if not done well, the onions may start regerminating. Once properly cured, trim the upper part neatly.

After trimming, you can either sell your onions immediately or store them for more than 5 months as you wait for better market prices. Proper storage ensures minimal losses and maximum profits!

To plant an acre of onions, you’ll need to invest Ksh 150,000-200,000. This amount covers seeds, labor, fertilizer, pest control, and post-harvest handling. But remember, you must have an irrigation system in place!

Hello Ken. Are there assured onion buyers? I once harvested and was really hard getting a buyer and had to incur extra costs to transport to the town centre and hire stores. Are there buyers who come to buy from the farm? That discouraged a bit especially if doing large-scale from 15-30 tonnes. Or even 5-10 tonnes. Do they come to buy from the farm?
