I thought one uses an escrow with localbitcoins? Perhaps I read wrong.

Did he recover from that?

Somebody with that amount of money is one who knows how to make money. Losing such an amount is not debilitating to him as he has the tools and knows the formulae of making money already. For such a person, such a loss is just a small inconvenience and moreover an advantage of a lesson learnt.

It is for this very reason that we should acquire money in an honest way. Do not be surprised that the guys who stole his money are languishing in want as they lack wisdom of making money except by use of criminal means, which by the way is not sustainable.
