Good idea but is it practical?

Hawking is t beneficial to anyone. It actually hurts the businesses that would employ a few Kenyans.
Whatever they sell is neither needed nor wanted. They should go back to their villages and do something productive, like farming

If hawking wasn't beneficial there would be no customers taking their time to get themselves something they like.

They can be a nuisance, thankfully we can fix that by accomodating them and regulation

It’s true they are not beneficial since all the wares they sell can be found in other legal license paying establishments.
It’s just that Kenyans we value convenience more than order that’s why you find matatu stopping anywhere to drop or pick passengers on roads that even have designated bus stops!
Majority of hawkers either sell 2nd hand clothes, food stuff or useless home appliances and electronics. All these can be found in Gikomba,Marikiti and Luthuli/Nyamakima shops.

Benefit is relative, for hawkers, their suppliers, their clientele and the economy hawking is beneficial.

Problem is hawkers do not stay at their designated places. When a hawker sets up their cartons on a walk way squeezing pedestrians into a single file.... Akiweka nyanya kwa pavement bahati mbaya ukanyange apige nduru. Hawkers are just a nuisance that should be dealt with. Privilege my foot

Thats why they are hawkers not open market traders.

By definition, they are required to move around to make their sale.

🤔🤔🤔
I am starting to see exposure is the biggest problem in Kenya. Or maybe the west and Europe do a very good job in presenting positives than negatives.

You hit the nail on the head.

BBC and CNN are all lying mainstream media.

They always like to cast a light on countries which can't defend themselves on the court of public opinion.

Thats why they enjoy reporting on Africa so much as some sort of hell hole.

When the West tries the same in the middle east, Al Jazeera hits back.

In Russia, RT is there

Western Europe has France time, DW, BBC etc

China up until recently was their favorite.

Now that they have CGTN and South China Morning Post, ata siasa za Hong Kong and Uighur Muslims si wengi wameskia.

Kenya/ Africa needs a new media overhaul.

KBC needs significant investment in order to be able to project real power.

A rebrand to AABC (All African Broadcasting Corporation) and a focused look inward to all issues African.

This should be treated like the way the Qatari's treat Al Jazeera or the British treat BBC.

As a vital institution for the projection of Soft Power.

Then, and only then will we reap the benefits .

Copycat mentality ya waKenya will not allow any business to prosper. Why would anyone setup a fruits business in an area with ten other similar businesses?

Halafu pia hatujipendi going by the way we litter and live/ work comfortably in the midst of filth.

most of these great ideas are presented to the relevant people. but since most don't have a monetary advantage, or come from juniours, they collect dust on the shelves.

will be of the opinion that we need African solution to our hawkers, nduthi, handcarts, trollies......... and stop using the west/east solution or way of doing things. most of those countries didn't have hawkers or nduthis when they made their designs.

we need to incorporate nduthis, mokokoteni, trolley, pedestrian, matatus in all our towns/cities. whether by confining them to specific streets/hours/locations.........

so this is a brilliant design (the one with pedestrian walkways and cycle track under the expressway don't think would work) but without discipline non of the great ideas will work.

so it's not a great idea

That will be a huuuuuuge tall order, but I get your point

As a rule I don't buy from hawkers, why should I promote a business that? blocks the footpaths and are rude to passerby; 'kanyaga uripe' and catcalling women like hormones laden teenagers.
