A lot of debate and controversy emerges in female athletics when not-so-female-looking participants continually dominate competitions by margins uncharacteristic of certain events. The perfect examples here would be South Africa’s Caster Semenya, Kenya’s Margaret Wambui, and Burundi’s Francine Niyonsaba. All three athletes share many attributes, including being raised as women, dominating women athletics events, exhibiting high testosterone levels, and being hit with bans from athletics bodies.
The other notable shared characteristic is their male looks, which would be unmistakable even to perennial dry spell artists, scavengers, and drunken people. Although these individuals claim to be females, their relationships speak otherwise. For instance, Semenya has a wife and a biological child born of the wife. Similarly, Margaret Wambui was once in the news for snatching someone’s girlfriend. Whereas Francine Niyonsaba is cagey about her love life, it is not difficult to predict where she will be discovered. In the past, these contradictions would have raised eyebrows. However, the confusion brought about by the rainbow campaign has desensitized the masses to such happenings.

The contradictions above can be resolved by looking at the biological attributes behind these phenomena. Simply put, these individuals suffer from the deficiency of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme is responsible for the formation of external male genitalia (Penis). Males with this condition will have the normal XY chromosome, ‘internally located’ testes, and female-like structures where the penis should be located. It should be noted that the condition presents in variable degrees or stages, ranging from nothing to something very small.
Therefore, it is easy to see why, using purely genitalia appearance, an individual born with the first three stages would automatically be assigned as female. Children with 5-alpha reductase deficiency are often raised as girls. Some of these individuals adopt a male gender role in adolescence or early adulthood, while others adopt a female gender role.
As an aside, a certain senator recounted how he once entertained a female who had no compartment to do the deed. The senator should not wait to be told why he needs cleansing.
