Dogs show emotion quite profoundly. Yawning, licking, panting, whites of the eyes showing, pacing, looking away… those things can mean stressed or distressed like in pain. Head down, ears down, crouched, tail pulled down, turning the head away - anxiety, fear, worry Happy- ears and tail up, loose body posture, tongue out, prancing, tail wagging… making eye contact, doing “play bows”… If you look at “canine calming signals” you can learn a lot about how dogs express emotion; dogs are social creatures with exceptional communication skills.
