So many things wrong with this. Why would someone fly tomatoes (perishable) to Netherlands considering how expensive air freight is? Wouldn’t it make more sense to set up the factory in Kenya?

Because the guys in Netherlands do not just source for their tomatoes only from Kenya. It would not make sense to build a factory at every location where their type of tomato is grown,would it now? It is cheaper to ferry the tomatoes to the factory.

And with the current logistics advances, nothing is really perishable.

Why is it that flowers from all over the world are ferried first to the biggest flower market in the world in Amsterdam other than directly to customers?

The top grade award winning seeds are 'bred'right here in east Africa, thanks to our favorable tropical climate and soils.
But the seeds are not available to local farmers.

The seeds do actually come back as 'imported seeds' and are available to those who can afford them. Its all about money and access to it.

The reason why tomatoes are retailing at such high prices is due to some fungal disease ('karuiru' in greek) that decimated the crop.Most farmers are counting heavy losses and the few that managed to salvage their crop only have a small percentage of production

Wish I was serious with these. Most are affected by fungus though. If they were propped up well, the disease wouldn't have been as bad. Ningeuza kidogo.

Boss,ati in the next ten years? There some already balling,seriously. Like I saw a group of farmers in ukambani who grow tomatoes exclusively for some factory in Netherlands...ukiona zile mansions they have put up and trips to Netherland wueh...

Haiya! The same Netherlands is accused of dumping onions (?) in Cameroon.

A few years back there was a report in the media that some establishments import tomatoes from Spain and potatoes from Egypt.
