BREAKING NEWS. SEVERAL TEACHERS ADMITTED AFTER THE KCSE CHEMISTRY PRACTICAL EXAM THAT CONTAINED A HARMFUL CHEMICAL.
The Ministry of Education is on the spot this morning after the ongoing national exam exposed candidates and teachers to a poisonous, deadly
chemical called xylene. This was during the chemistry practical on Friday morning.
Already several teachers, lab technicians and students who took part have been taken ill and many are admitted. It is shocking, that mainstream media is not reporting this, and the unions are yet to issue a statement.
What happened is that all chemistry practical exam teachers and all KCSE candidates were exposed to this dangerous chemical that was
a requirement during the practical exam. Worst affected were the Invigilators, supervisors and Centre Managers too. CS Education Prof Magoha was sited in one of the exam halls. His condition is unknown.
Breathing xylene vapours in small amounts can cause headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea. But with more serious exposure of xylene will cause sleepiness, stumbling, irregular heartbeat, fainting, or even death.
All candidates were exposed for atleast 2 hours. The teachers if they had 3 sessions were exposed to this harmful substance for over 6 hours.
We have notified the TSC, THE TEACHER'S MEDICAL COVER, the Ministry of Education, the unions, and media houses. All students and teachers or families of the aforementioned must report or ensure treatment. If you know any of the concerned please share information.
This is unacceptable. We will not take it lightly and we must sue the Kenya National Examination Council for such negligence.
CONCLUSION
All teachers must come out strongly to demand answers . Lives of teachers cannot be compromised because of an exam. Magoha must answer. Parliament must be concerned. Lives of teachers matter.
