Education CS George Magoha issued a new directive on the transfer of students from private to public schools.

The directive also affected KCPE and KCSE candidates who registered to sit the exams in private schools.

Magoha instructed school heads of primary and secondary schools to admit students from private institutions in January 2021.

He also said that the candidates from private schools will also be temporarily admitted to the public schools.

“All pupils who cannot return to their private schools will be admitted in public schools.

"KCPE and KCSE candidates will learn in public schools, but they will return to the private schools during examinations time to enable them to sit the exams,” the CS said while speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Ida Odinga's Library at Ogande Girls High School in Homa Bay.

Most of the private schools were shut down owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. The government failed to cushion these institutions from the effects of the virus opting to support public schools and teachers registered under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Parents who had children in private schools have been rushing to seek admission in public schools. Headteachers lamented that the exercise will lead to over congestion in schools.

Others argued that they have not been provided with enough infrastructure to accommodate the new students.

Magoha warned the school heads against denying students from private schools admission.

He argued that parents were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and headteachers should also consider sending students away for school fees.

"Do your homework before you send a student back home for school fees.

"We don’t want students to be sent home," he stated.

There is need for government, parents and other stakeholders to make public utilities (schools) offer better service than private, so that when such scenarios arise there is no this kind of embarrassment.

Like i could give an analogy of Princi @Elgin (pole lakin) looting everything that belongs to the school and makes it impossible for him to admit his kids in the same institution. Then he opts for Moi Kabarak or his private academy where there is a better environment for his children?
We should force him to have his kids in the same school he is shïtting!

We have made it a norm to run down our institutions thro corruption (ju ni mali ya serikali) then run to private to hide our interests there!

Same thing to public hospitals, tunaiba madawa tunapeleka chemist zetu. When a patient comes for subsidized meds/service, they are directed to our private clinics and pharmacies which serve as our side hustles. This is pathetic!

I have always argued that the employees of government, including politicians, should only be provided medical cover in public hospitals.

Now what's the likelihood of the directive being followed on the ground?, the one on school fees wasn't heeded, what makes you and me positive that this shall be followed?
