This is an opinion piece for all Kenyan parents suffering from a slave-making education.

Broadly, there was nothing wrong with 8-4-4, the bone of contention heavily weighing on that system was its examination ways.

The examination had become the only thing that most schools used archaic and sometimes unscrupulous ways to achieve the top marks.

It was a thing that the end justified the means. Which was wrong.

The economy is dilapidated.

Parents are overburdened by the needs of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

It needs to stop.

You have been elected on the platform of bottom up. On the premise that anyone can come from any background and achieve much.

CBC, as per analysts, is not a curriculum that endows anyone with this. It does the opposite.

We need 8-4-4 back but without that cut-throat unnecessary examination that is KCPE and KCSE. There should be a new way to gauge who rolls on to the next stage.

Just wish his administration does away with the junior secondary thing, whether CBC or 844, Wacha watoto wafike class 8. Then focus on equally funding schools and do away with the categorization of secondary schools.
Exam competition is due to the limited decent secondary school with proper resources, if all public schools are standardized in terms of resources then we won't even need a change in curriculum, at least not in the way it's being done with CBC.
 
What is the possibility of reducing the cost of this carriculum? For example, why do books need to be single use? The traditional family setting has changed. Many low income parents have to work long hours or have a long commute. Did the carriculum designers take parental availability into consideration?

As far as content is concerned, I'm not expert. Waalimu, how does the content differ? What is the difference in skills acquired between 8-4-4 and competency based carricula?

Most of them will be pre-puberty at around 12 years old. Thats too young! Let them be children. Who knows, wazee might consider pushing that ceremony until they clear junior high school.
