Kenyan government will pay between Sh2,700 to Sh4000 for Moderna vaccine depending on the amount ordered. This is if it will decide to use the vaccine.
Last week, Moderna announced that their vaccine is 95% efficient.
According to media outlets, European Union officials who were involved in vaccine talks said the Commission wanted to reach a deal with Moderna for the supply of millions of doses of its vaccine candidate for a price below Ksh. 2,700 per dose.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe earlier this month had announced that Kenya is working on its own vaccine which is being researched at KEMRI.
He said he had his own reservations about Pfizer vaccine that was announce to be 90% efficient.
KEMRI has also started collecting samples of COVID-19 survivors to be used as antibodies.
Approximately 30 doctors have succumbed to Covid-19 since the first case was announced in March.
