Court quashes bid to higher tax on petroleum products

High Court Justice James Makau has issued temporary orders quashing the decision by the Commissioner General KRA to adjust excise duty rates for petroleum products that was to take effect October 1.

The judge said there will be danger to Kenyans in the further increase of fuel prices, and if KRA adjusts the excise duty rates as proposed, though the decision is pending approval by the CS National Treasury Ukur Yatani.

"I find the application meets the threshold for interim orders. The petitioners have established they have a prima facie case with a likelihood of success," he said.

Yaani, Hawa watu, they couldn't shelve that one for now? Government revenues from petroleum products are a percentage. Every time the international prices rise, government revenue rises. Adding more taxes is not right at this time. It's insensitive!
