Boris is kinda devilishly right you know. Not saying it is the right thing. Herd immunity is the reason why you are still alive right now. How many uncles and aunties in your family died early on due to diseases?

I am talking about the theoretical and unfortunately impossible situation if people actually stayed at home as we are being told.
Italy and just about every country acted as if it was no big deal. Their high life expectancy puts them in the position they are in now.

Fortunately in Africa the double edged low life expectancy is actually an advantage.

We also have less cancers and lifestyle diseases especially outside the cities. Luckily most people only work and don't live in the cities but the outskirts unlike oversees.

Our biggest problem is we still have this mtu mkubwa system. This system is the grandchild of the colonial caste system. This is how it works. Mtu mkubwa is above the law. Only his senior can use the system against him when he does something wrong. So in this Kilifi DG story it had to be the cabinet minister who could push the police to do their job. A police officer can see a politician breaking the law and do nothing even though his job responsibility is to arrest those who break the law.
The problem with this system is that institutions are rendered useless. Si uliona Boniface Mwangi blocking a VIP car using the wrong side of the road hapo kando ya uniformed traffic police officer who just stood there?
We have deep deep problems.
Jomo Kenyatta could have done away with mtu mkubwa system but he was so in love with power that he chose to maintain it. Moi perfected the mtu mkubwa by completely decimating the institutions.
That mtu mkubwa mentality has grown roots into our psyche. To uproot those Kenya has to burn like Rwanda. Merely firing the department heads or ministers never changes anything.

I don't know if you have seen the obituaries over there. It is full of grey haired and basically over 65 people. Their life expectancy is very high ndio maana wako na wazee wengi, ironically because of those good health systems.

Huku kenya people have cleared out of Nairobi and I imagine it is the same in major cities around the country.

It doesn't seem to be the case in satellite towns.

So long as people keep away from the elderly, then we will not be as badly hit. That is a big IF though.

Elderly here in Kenya depends on young folks like my younger relatives to take care of them. We don't have advanced nursing homes like majuu who have paid professionals to do the care. So separating our elders from the young population is impossible.

ANother thing, as someone who lived in Italy sometime in 2016, those guys smoke like no one's business and many live in big families; both great contributors of the spread. Alafu, did you see the trending videos from February where Chinese people would stand in city squares such as FLorence and Milano, remove their face masks and get hundreds of embraces...nie reke gwire!

The government can't do everything for you. Kenyans have to step up and take responsibility too. If someone has been overseas in the past month or so keep your distance for a few weeks before being in close proximity with them.

Dude, you are starting to irritate me. So Europe has 'underlying conditions' and Kenya doesn't? And what the ferk do you call HIV (5% of Kenyan population), TB (1 million more Kenyans), malaria (1 million cases per year), malnutrtion (above 20% of the population), typhoid and gastro-intestinal infections etc etc?
