In the morning, a prospective client visited our workshop. He said he is starting a boarding school and needs beds to be fabricated. He asked for a quotation. I make him one. Discount iko? I give him that too. I will get back to you. He says. In the afternoon, he calls to ask if a further discount is possible because his budget is stretched. I agree. Kiasi tu. Cost of materials being high, discount cannot pass certain points. We agree on 350k, downpayment of 70%. 245k upfront, balance on delivery. With this deal, maybe I can sleep for a whole month and rest my tired bones. Maybe bond with the little ones kiasi.
He says payment will be processed the following day. He asks for bank details. Following day, he calls and says the accountant has processed the payment and it should reflect. That work should start immediately. Alright, I say. I check the bank balance. Payment not yet. A few hours later, not yet. He calls me in the evening and asks me to check. I do. Yes, the payment is there. Only that it is a cheque deposit. Sum amount? 340k. He calls the following morning and asks me if I saw the money. I tell him yes, but that it is a cheque. He seems perplexed why his accountant would pay via cheque. He cuts phone and calls back after 30 or so minutes. He says his accountant misunderstood the urgency of the beds fabrication. I ask him why was the payment for 340k yet downpayment was supposed to be less? He replies that the accountant is a newbie. He tells me that he will advise later on the excess payment. No problem.
Later, he calls me and in an urgent tone, tells me that he has some fundis on the site who need some payment. That the accountant confused while making the payment as he should have divided it before writing me the cheque. He asks if I can send one of the fundis 60k, kindly. I tell him, no problemo sir. Now, I believe that my money is like soldiers who should go out in the morning and capture some more then bring them back in the evening. So, there is absolutely no way that I am going to fall for such a con trick. He wants my soldiers to be captured instead? No way.
He has been calling me incessantly and I have been leading him on the way some Nairobi girls lead some horny men. Natuma boss, ndio nashughulika, usijali si tutafanya kazi blah blah blah.. If I would have been greedy, he would have captured my soldiers. Because, you can only get conned if you want something in exchange for nothing. If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, then it most definitely is a duck. Class dismissed
The deposited cheque was fake.
