That train hoots several times when approaching this section. The fact that the lorry has not been sliced in half tells me the train driver saw him early and applied the breaks.
Hii area pia huwa na jam kidogo because of vehicles turning to the right into town hapo Barclays. Most likely this guy climed over the rail and could not move back or forward in the jam.

The red roofed buildings in the background are the classrooms of DEB Karatina Primary School. Where I went for my primary school education.
The railway runs parallel to one side of the school.
So when I hear of trees around the level crossing,I guess they are talking of another Karatina but not the one I grew up in.
By the way,in Kiambu county,there is a Kiratina town. Maybe thats where the crossing is obscured by trees. I don't know.
