government plans to phase out the importation of second-hand vehicles by 2026 in an effort to grow the local car assembly industry.

This is among several measures planned by the Industrialisation ministry to streamline the motor assembly sector.

In the Draft 2021 Budget Policy Statement released yesterday, the Treasury noted that second-hand car models make up more than 85 per cent of the imported fully built units (FBUs) in Kenya.

What will be the prices? The taxation regime can't allow Kenyans to get a decent car at 1m..am talking of premios and sporty audis that are shaping the middle class segments. If this passes vehicles will cost 4m north for cheapest decent sedans. Am not supporting unless govt does sth to maintain cost of ownership to be within reasonable levels.

Wame chelewa , they should facilitate efficient mass transport systems and most will leave their jalopies at home and very few will be importing .Ni kama hii mambo ya matatu there is no need to ban them just introduce /facilitate efficient BRT and rail system . Infact i would propose they zero rate the BRT buses (70 plus passengers )
 
🤑🤑🤑🤑 Guess who is leading the onslaught on local vehicle manufacturing while at the same time supplying those vehicles to unsuspecting Uber drivers?
