Did you know that tires have a manufacturing date and most car manufacturers recommend replacing them at 6 years from the date of manufacture?
The two last numbers are the year the tire was manufactured while the first two are the week of manufacture.
Why should you care, well, the rubber compounds in a tire deteriorate over time so a tire might look new with good thread depth but still be dangerous if it's too old. The old rubber cracks with time (Same as when you try to stretch an old rubber band) and may separate from the steel belts in the tire.
A high profile accident in which old tires came into focus was the 2013 accident that killed Paul Walker. Investigations revealed that his Porsche Carrera GT had 9-year-old tires which might have compromised its drivability and handling according to the California Highway Patrol.
