SUBJECT: SHOOTING INCIDENT
Ref OB No. 08/10/2/2023 at 1150hrs hrs.Be informed that today at around 1645hrs, multi Agency security teams comprising of RDU G coy, Astu B COY, Gsu R COY and regular police from Kainuk and Lokichar police stations while continuing with patrols along Kitale-Lodwar highway were ambushed by suspected armed Pokot bandits at about 5km from KWS camp towards Kakong. On spotting the security team, bandits amounting to about 200 started shooting indiscriminately at the officer's who returned fire. As the security officers were concentrating on neutralizing the attackers, they were attacked from behind by another group of about 100 armed bandits sorrounding the officers from all direction. Fierce fire exchange continued for over 2Hrs before the shooting stopped. The following casualties have been reported from the officers. 1. Mr. William Adenyo SP(SCPC TURKANA SOUTH)-multiple injury on left posterior chest. 2. Mr Peter Muli asp(GSU) Deputy SOPS R- COY-mandibular injury 3. CIP Duncan Thuo ( DEPUTY COMMANDING OFFICER ASTU B COY- Gunshot wound on left thigh 4. PC Ezekiel Bundi -(Lokichar police station), pelvic injury 5. 20210425385 APC Gideon Mulwa (RDU )pelvic injury 6. 20210392883 APC Festus Mwangi(RDU)-posterior pelvic injury 7.Pc Rooney Kirui (Lokichar police station) 8. PC Malak Okioma(Lokichar police station)9. Mercy Ondisa (civilian passenger on public vehicle)pelvic injury. There are reports of several fatalities at the scene of the attack. Two of who have been confirmed and their bodies are lying inside the APC While several others are yet to be confirmed. The injured officers were evacuated from scene by 2 armoured personnel carrier (APC) vehicles from to GSU and ASTU respectively and taken to Kainuk health centre and were later referred to Mediheal Group of Hospital -Eldoret for further medication. Three land cruisers among other vehicles used by the officer had their tyres deflated with other several damages inflicted by the bandits still at the scene. More information to follow.
