Some shrubs and grasses may not be palatable to livestock but are great at preventing soil erosion, soil dehydration and soil degradation.
Such grasses may have the additional benefits of adding more humus to the soil and might even have basket-weaving, fuel or thatching purposes.
Nothing in nature has no purpose to the ecosystem.
