It could possibly be the yeast. You can test that by taking just honey. I always carry some Flagyl tablets with me for the same reason. A simple meal or glass of water can turn my day upside down.
Heating the drink in a boiling waterbath for 15 minutes would kill the micro-organisms and have you enjoy the drink.
