One day, I’m at Tajmall stage waiting to board a vehicle to town. There are currently two vehicles picking passengers at the stage; one an Embassava minibus and the other a Citihoppa bus. As I stand there undecided which I should board, each of the two Makangas tries to convince me to enter their vehicle. Each tries to win me over by highlighting the advantages of their vehicle over the other. This contest goes on for many minutes. As other passengers appear and board, I am still standing there undecided. Finally, as the Embassava minibus is about the leave, the Embassava Makanga approaches me to make one final pitch. Pointing at the Citihoppa, he emphatically shouts at me saying, ‘ile ni nyumba!’And that is how he won one more passenger.
