As a junior elder, I was recently called in to mediate in a serious conflict between a young couple. Apparently when they go for their monthly shopping together the young lady always insists that the husband buys only the premium brands, saying that the more economical brands are poor quality.
A few months ago the husband noticed that when he gives out the shopping money the wife ends up buying the very budget brands she rejects when they are together and he's the one paying. Those of you who shop know there's a whole world of difference between, say, Tena toilet paper and Sifa. The savings when they're on a monthly shopping of about 15K is substantial.
Early this month the fight started right in the supermarket where the huz insisted on using the previous month's receipt to buy the same brands and quantities the wife had bought the previous month (coz apparently while they normally buy about five bar soaps they only use three in the month and the huz discovered a stash of about eight bars in a closet, together with many other new unused supplies?
The talks fell apart when the wife asked us - "Tunafanya economy ya nini na hiyo pesa ni kukunyua atakunyua tu?"
