Hizi training huwa ni avenues za ku-avoid kazi, kutembea to new places, kupata allowances, na kupata tenders za catering. Kuna kitu inaitwa internet sijui kama imefikia civil servants yet. And the so called training sessions are over such basic things it is embarrassing that people have to spend time and money over such.
Kuna time fulani Madam fulani aliorganize workshop ya Aids for teachers kwa shule yake. Chakula ilikuwa ya five star alafu allowance kiasi for attendees. We attended religiously to listen to the ABCs of safe sex that have been preached for decades. Most importantly, we were there for the food and allowances, and we made fun of the whole thing. Of course, some organization was paying good money for the workshops, which we did not need in the first place. It happened that the husband suffered a fatal car accident katika harakati hizo. And that got me thinking ..................

Training is where some of us get kitunguu. Especially government.

Imagine I have had a 5-day training for some top organization on how to use Adobe Acrobat PDF reader. 5 days.

At discussions stage, I suggested that this is a half day training. But the training manager insisted it should take 5 days
Who am I to refuse?

The whinners are out and about. You would think civil servants are being trained to disarm bombs and restore jet engines.

Who doesn't know how much money is wasted on workshops and trips to mombasa ati for training.

They might as well do online trainings which are almost zero cost.

Tell me where to get free online training and certification for Oracle Exadata Database Machine Service X9M Certified Implementation Specialist, and I will buy you a kg of khat.

Some of these certifications require instructor-led training as a mandatory requirement for certification.
And in most cases, once an organization acquires software or hardware, it comes with a package that includes training.

This, however, doesn't mean there isn't unnecessary wastage in training.

Alafu unakuta hiyo training ya Adobe Acrobat is prioritized over training ya data analytics ama security systems za kazi. Even when approved, hiyo training unakuta ni boss na Ile kinyangarika yake wako listed as attendees! NKT!

Kuna time my former boss sent his kinyangarika for training at my expense. We were expected to do a major upgrade. I ended up doing it myself anyway. Na hiyo kinyangarika yake ended up marrying his boss! She went on to accuse him of assault. What comes around...
