Muhimu sii cost ya kununua that damn hardware. Because we can always say 22 million ama 5 hundred pounds. Which is in other words, its value. There is another aspect to it ambayo huwezi kusema ni ten thousand ama 40 million. The convenience, ama inconvenience, whatever the case. That kind of loss is priceless. It is INVALUABLE. Imagine a scenario where a patient dies because there is no power to light the room where the surgery operation is being done! And that's why I advocate for all vandals to be given harsher punishments than chicken thieves

New oil goes for Kshs 250 per liter. Used oil will hardly fetch Kshs 100 per liter. Assuming this transformer carries about 40 liters, that is about 4000 shillings, assuming you get a buyer. Iron core might get you 25 bob per kilogram. Assuming we have about 100 kg, that is 2500 shillings. Copper will fetch about 100-150 bob, and there could be about 200 kg in the transformer, giving about 20000 - 30000 shillings.
The money is in the copper. If they needed oil, they would have taken care not to spill it, and they would not have bothered to bring the transformer down. If they needed iron, they would have taken the external container as well, which weighs more than the iron inside.

NB: These are just quick estimates from a fading but reliable memory.
