Did you know? At some point in time, each person’s name had a meaning. However, with language evolution through migrations and interactions, many of these meanings were lost largely due to lack of written records. Surprisingly, some of these lost meanings still survive in groups that shared a common past or interactions. For instance, a name whose meaning has been lost in Kikuyu could still have a current meaning in Kisii, Kamba or some other language group in South Africa.

Music from one locality can induce deep resonance in another distant enclave due to past lingual ties. Most probably, this happens from the fact that the brain can subconsciously pick out what should be familiar patterns. I have witnessed Luo music enjoying good play in parts of South Sudan, Kamba music in parts of Tanzania, and Kukuyu music in Rwanda. The same reasoning could explain the dominance and pervasiveness of Congolese music on large parts of the African Continent.
