Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday arrested a 50-year-old woman and recovered a consignment of expired cooking oil in Changamwe, Mombasa County.
The intelligence-led operation was conducted at the Denco Godown where 1,265 twenty-litre jerry cans of expired Mitra cooking oil was seized.
The suspect, Deborah Taabu, is said to have been repackaging the consignment with intent to sell it back to unsuspecting members of the public.
“The DCI once again warns those hell-bent on supplying products that are poisonous and/or unfit for human consumption out of sheer GREED for money that no effort will be spared in tracking them down and subjecting them to the full force of the law,” said the George Kinoti-led team.
The operation was conducted alongside officers drawn from Public Health, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Anti-Counterfeit Authority.
