Why is Africa Reduced on the World Map?

See the distance between Dakar and Hordio, Somalia and compare it with the distance between the Russian extremities of Krasnodar and Anadyr. Iko ukora. Maybe there's an explanation why they exaggerated the maps in the northern hemisphere.

From the map Russia definitely looks bigger than the African continent. When you go to numbers, Africa is almost twice the size of Russia which happens to be the biggest country in the world.

I don't think there is anything sinister. It is probably as a result of how the map would appear on a globe. Africa being central shrinks while the other continents stretch on a 2D grid.

Why not the opposite? Why not give the exact size coz it's always stated that the map is drawn to scale?
