What is the most ridiculous quote someone has given you for a product? Upselling culture.?

The upselling culture in this city is unbelievable. Everything has a mark up of at least 150% so unapata someones whole business is founded on finding the 1 fool to get through for the month. From clothing to furniture to electronics to food stuffs is unreasonably overpriced.

The other day i was looking for a simple dining table for 2, yani viti mbili and 1me by 1 metre table. I found this page that seemed to make quality stuff. I meesage them a picture and requested a quote they would'nt give it by message and insisted for my number they call me. I obliged and was called by a lady who told me the set will cost ksh 65,000, I laughed i truly honestly laughed and she lost her bearing for a second. This woman is quoting me 2 months salary of an average bank tellar for a freaking 2 seater table. Are people this illogical and out of touch with the economy. I proceed to tell her hatuwezi ongea from the price she quoted nikakata simu. She calls me back a minute with a new quote of 50k so in 1 minute shes reduced selling price by ferking 15k that alone tells me this is a business you do not want interacting with at all.

That's just part of the story...
Tell us how much timber, workmanship (labour), other expenses (electricity, rent etc) did cost to the seller. Then they are in to make money so add the profit.
I believe it's a free market....there are no rules.

Mimi last week I was looking for some parts....the ones that come in pairs. Nikaambiwa one costs 18k, so both parts would have set me back 36k nikashindwa shida ya huyu jamaa ni gani.

I went to another shop after getting some referrals....I got those same parts for 11k both of them....Ferkers!!!

Exactly it's a free market which has its cruel way of punishing illogical business people. Most of this businessed failing its because of utter greed and stupidity.

There are items you see the quoted price and immediately know you are dealing with a broker. But anything technical / services you have to take some time and evaluate why the price difference, don't just rush for the lower offer

Exactly what I was going to say. Some sectors kama electronics wanapigwa compe proper na imports from sites like eBay na Amazon. Ukijaribu kuangalia bei ya Focusrite Scarlett Solo Studio Gen 3 huku unakutana na quotes za 60-70k, yet the thing is sold at 25k on Amazon, ukiongeza ifike 50k unapata nyongeza ya studio monitors murwa.

I'm sick and tired of this behavior, i had to halt construction due to some scary quotes i was getting from contractors, once i told them i would do some consultations for a week, the quotes started going down, some even by half, i have lost confidence in people i thought were friends because of this behavior.
