I have never understood they difference in colour of uniforms. Some being blue and others being combat. Aren't all police officers supposed to wear the same uniform colour. If not so, why?

Depends on nature of duties of the day. There are different officers - AP, regular, GSU, ASTU . They all have their day to day uniforms and those for special assignments. Then special kits such as those used by SWAT/SPECIALIZED teams

Green is generally a combat color while blue is a 'service' color.
