Charlie Munger
Fortune: US$2.4 billion
Born in 1924, Charlie Munger had a bright future as a lawyer. After graduating from Harvard Law School, he founded Munger, Tolles & Olson in 1962, now considered one of the most prestigious law firms in the country. In fact, Bill Gates chose Munger’s firm, along with two others, to represent him during his divorce from Melinda Gates. Munger didn’t make his fortune as a lawyer, though. His old friend, Warren Buffett, pushed him to join Berkshire Hathaway, where he currently serves as vice chairman. According to Charlie, "The best advice I ever got from Warren was to stop practicing law. He thought it was all right as a hobby, but as a business it was pretty stupid."

Richard Scruggs
Fortune: US$1.7 billion
Considered one of the wealthiest men in Mississippi, Richard Scruggs gained notoriety for suing the asbestos industry on behalf of sick shipyard workers. He also represented devastated homeowners against insurance companies following Hurricane Katrina. In his most lucrative case, however, he represented the State of Mississippi against tobacco companies. The lawsuit resulted in a settlement of US$206 billion.

Jerry Reinsdorf
Fortune: US$1.7 billion
While Jerry Reinsdorf has worked as a lawyer and accountant, he’s best known as the owner of the White Sox and Chicago Bulls, sports teams he acquired in 1981 and 1985, respectively. Fun fact: Reinsdorf’s career began with a tax delinquency case involving Bill Veeck, owner of the White Sox at the time. Reinsdorf then moved on to real estate securities and now serves as a principal at the security consulting and business advisory firm Global Security Innovative Strategies (GSIS) in addition to maintaining his athletic endeavours.

William Lerach
Fortune: US$900 million
Prior to his disbarment in 2009, William Lerach practised for 30 years as a class-action securities lawyer. His legal career included suits against some of the biggest names in business, including Halliburton during Cheney’s term as CEO.

Bill Neukom
Fortune: US$850 million
Stanford Law School graduate Bill Neukom served as Microsoft's chief counsel for nearly 25 years and then as the company’s senior vice president. During his tenure as attorney, he played a prominent role in defending Microsoft against a lawsuit filed by the United States in the late ‘90s.

Judge Judy
Fortune: US$400 million
Judith Sheindlin began her career as a corporate lawyer for a cosmetics company. A few years later, she served as a family law prosecutor then a criminal court judge with a reputation for being tough and pragmatic. After retiring, Judge Judy was approached to star in a reality show bearing her name. In 2012, she was the highest-paid television host in the world with an annual salary of US$45 million.

Fortune: US$200 million
Willie E. Gary (African America) has been nicknamed "The Giant Killer" thanks to victories against American heavyweights Disney and Anheuser-Busch. Forbes has named him one of the 50 best American lawyers, while Ebony magazine calls Gary one of the 100 most influential African Americans.

Robert Shapiro
Fortune: US$120 million
Robert Shapiro graduated from Loyola Law School in 1968. After starting his career as a state attorney, he founded his own firm within a few years. He then acquired a certain notoriety among celebrities, and over the years has represented headliners such as Christian Brando, Linda Lovelace, Eva Longoria, the Kardashian family, and others.

John Branca
Fortune: US$100 million
Music aficionado John Branca has been one of the most influential entertainment lawyers of all time, providing legal counsel to numerous record companies and more than 30 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame bands and musicians, including The Rolling Stones, Carlos Santana, The Beach Boys, Dr. Dre, Nirvana, The Bee Gees, The Doors, and Alicia Keys.

Roy Black
Fortune: US$85 million
Roy Black is known for having represented famous people such as Jeffrey Epstein, Justin Bieber, and Kelsey Grammer. He also served as defence counsel in two high-profile trials involving William Kennedy Smith and Rush Limbaugh, respectively.

Jane Wanjiru Michuki
Fortune: US$60 million
After studying at the Kenya School of Law and the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, Jane Wanjiru Michuki focused on corporate law. Currently an associate director at Kimani & Michuki Advocates, based in Nairobi, she has represented some of Africa's largest companies, including Equity Group Holdings Limited, the continent's largest holding company. Now a shareholder in Equity Group Holdings Limited, Michuki enjoys an income that makes her one of Kenya’s richest residents. She nevertheless remains involved in many causes in her native country, earning her an appointment to the United Nations as a human rights consultant.

Amal Clooney
Fortune: US$50 million
Amal Alamuddin, also known as Amal Clooney since marrying American actor George Clooney, specialized in international law and human rights. During the 2010s, she worked on a number of high-profile cases, representing Julian Assange, the State of Cambodia, and the Armenian government in its pursuit of recognition for the Armenian genocide.

Alan Dershowitz
Fortune: US$20 million
Yale Law School graduate Alan Dershowitz has spent almost his entire career teaching at Harvard Law School with occasional involvement in several high-profile cases. He was part of Donald Trump’s legal team during his Senate impeachment trial and has defended numerous celebrities, including Mike Tyson, Patty Hearst, O.J. Simpson, and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Judge Lynn Toler
Fortune: US$20 million
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Lynn Toler ( African American) began a career in television as host of The Power of Attorney in 2001. For 14 seasons, starting in 2006, she starred in the reality show Divorce Court. At 160 episodes per year, each paying US$31,250, Toler earned US$5 million per year in her last three seasons.
