What makes the Hass avocado so popular? I prefer Fuerte.
There's some local unnamed varieties that Fuerte or Hass would not hold a candle to. .
Ziko huko mashinani. Product of natural cross pollination. They are known in their locales. Avocado ya "kwa Johanna" is how they might be known and are found only kwa the said Johanna.
Someone should go around the villages and document these tasty, creamy cultivars that no one knows about. There might be a gold mine avocado variety out there that needs to be discovered.

Hass is pushed to farmers because they provide best space efficiency when it comes to shipping.

The size is more or less standardised for the European/American consumers who likes to see the exact same thing all the time.

Hass is however far from being the tastiest of avocados, Wakisii na Waembu have some very flavourful very oily varieties.
