Elefants are harmless when in a herd. Just switch off the engine, relax and watch them walk away to their destination. Don't try funny isht like whistling, honking or taking selfies with a flash.
But if you encounter a single elephant, run for your dear life. Or an elephant with a baby.

I stupidly walked into a bush where I knew, but wished away the fact that there was a lone elephant, thinking that they are slow creatures anyway. Sikuwa nafikiria.
Itu turned out that the cow had a calf below bush level. I only heard loud stomps and and saw the tops of the trees separating very quickly. I took to my heels in thr opposite direction back towards the road.
