Making a call to his wife exposed this KDF soldier to a sniper bullet

Kenya has been battling with the Somalia based terror group Al shabab for years since the Operation Linda Inchi was launched by the former president Mwai Kibaki. This has had it's effects both negative and positive to the county as a whole, the KDF itself and families if individual soldiers. The negative effects range from soldiers suffering injuries to others dying and leaving windows and families without breadwinners.
The family of Jackson Okoyo a platoon commander has not been spared by the war either. Mr Okoyo was stationed in trenches with a number of other members of the Kenyan Defence Force in neighbouring Somalia when he decided to make a night time call home. He called his newly wedded wife Doreen Magak. It was normal for him to call home daily as his wife said.
In the army, every soldier is prohibited from using cellphones especially during duty hours.Breaking the jungle's rule of the thumb, Mr. Okoyo was unaware that his actions had put him squarely in the crosshairs of a sniper who then shot him dead along with other members of the unit. The light from his cellphone made it easier for the snipper to locate him and aim leaving him and other soldiers with him dead.
His wife claimed that they had only be married for a month. She could hear him talking anymore and kept on calling his name with no response. She later decided to send a few texts which got no replies. Later ba heartbreaking text probably sent by a fellow soldier reached her inbox "he is dead"
Miss Magak described her deceased husband as handsome, humble and respectful.
