As schools open for third term, Bungoma High School Senior Principal Enock Andanje has thrown his weight behind the mandatory drug testing for students as they report back to school after the December holiday.

Speaking to the media in his office, Andanje said that CS George Magoha has taken the right direction in supporting for mandatory drug testing amongst students as it will help end frequent unrests that has been sweeping through schools in the recent past that forced several of them to be closed, adding that it has really affected syllabus coverage

The Education CS said there was no doubt that students in some school across the country were using drugs, which may have contributed largely to the recent wave of unrests.

He said that the testing is key in identifying errant students so that they are isolated and dealt with to ensure smooth running of the institutions.

“Education stakeholders should fully support the move by CS Magoha which will enable schools fight the vices in learning institutions,” he said.

The Senior Principal asked parents to support and give their children – especially those in form four – good time to prepare for their national examination as this year’s Education calendar is short and busy.

He also urged other Education stakeholders to support CS Magoha’s move in fighting drug abuse in schools.

“When students use drugs, they become excited which prompts them to start the school fires, destroying properties thus affecting others and tainting the name of the school,” Andanje noted.

He added that as the school head, he will not allow few students to taint the name of the school saying that he has put strategies in place to fight drug abuse and use of phones within the school compound by students.

He said that his school has a strong guiding and counseling department that directs and corrects students.
