Police in Embu are holding five suspects accused of making illicit brew and distributing it to unsuspecting operators. A multiagency operation led by Embu County Commisioner Eddyson Nyale observed that a similar brew killed more than 30 people and left others blind nine years ago in Embu County.

He said those making illicit brew will face the full force of the law. Nyale noted that the suspect, Jackline Gatwiri, had other cases pending at Siakago law courts that are related to illegal production and distribution of alcohol and evading tax.Daniel Rukunga, the county police commander, appealed to members of the public to volunteer information and agree to be witnesses.Rukunga noted that the suspect had relocated to the remote part of Ndune in Makima, after escaping a police dragnet at Kiritiri market in Mbeere South Subcounty, where she operates a liquor distribution store.
